Kanchanaburi is famous
as the site of the world-famous Bridge Over The River Kwai,
immortalized in books and movies. Beyond the compact provincial
capital, where the Kwai Yai and the Kwai Noi rivers unite
to form the Mae Klong River, Kanchanaburi unfolds into
a rugged beautiful landscape of mountains, waterfalls,
caves and tranquil riverside settings. A sparsely populated
province much of which has been preserved in National parks,
Kanchanaburi is a treat for nature lovers and cyclists. |

What do we see? |
| |
After driving up from Bangkok, we visit the Bridge and
Railway Museum before taking the Death Railway to Kraset
caves. We also visit an elephant camp and there is a chance
for an elephant ride before we get on the bikes. We start
our ride at Prasat Muang Singh, a Khmer temple that dates
back to the Angkorian period of the 12th Century.

What is the riding
like? |
| |
Our first ride is through stunning countryside, small
Thai villages and teak plantations. A nice easy warm up
afternoon ride. On the second day, we have a colourful
full day riding great jungle trails. Red laterite roads
contrast beautifully with the green of the jungle and blue
skies. The scenery is awe-inspiring with limestone cliffs
punctuating a mountainous skyline that rolls towards Burma
in the west. The final ride is a touch more challenging!
You will enjoy some unforgettable descents through the
jungle and a magnificent riverside ride beside a tributary
of the Kwai Noi or along the road to the infamous Hellfire
Pass.
Although there is some harder riding, this is a fully
supported trip, suitable for most levels of riders and
has proved very popular with families.

Where do we stay?
|
| |
Words like charming and 'beautifully
located' are horribly overused on travel websites but in
this case they are frighteningly inadequate. Cliff View
Resort really is beautifully located, on the banks of the
River Kwai and River Kwai Resotel, which is arguably Thailand's
all-time greatest jungle resort, is stacked with charm
and character. It also boasts a riverside swimming pool,
herbal steam room and some of the best practitioners of
traditional Thai massage - perfect after a day in the saddle. |

| |
Anything else? |
| |
We can't say enough about
our Kanchanabuiri Bike Ride. The scenery is truly outstanding,
the accommodation is simply marvelous and the riding superb.
Add plenty of cultural interest and some memorable meals
and you have one of the best little bike rides ever. |
